Trapping the Shrew

In my Drama class, we learned about Shakespeare's plays and women's struggle for rights. A shrew is a person who is not fitting the gender role "requirement". The play we read was The Taming of the Shrew and it is about a man named Christopher Sly comes in a bar and falls asleep and the owner of the place said to prank him in thinking he is a lord. After sober, Sly is treated to a play. In that play, there is a rich "prince" named Lucentio and his male servants, Tranio and Biondello, arrive in the Italian city name Padua to attend a university. During his search, he spots a beautiful young woman named Bianca and wants to marry her but he sees that she has two men who also want to marry her, Grumio and Hortensio. but for Bianca to get married, someone has to marry her “crazy” sister, Katherine. Pertucio, hortensio’s friend chooses to help hortensio get Bianca by marrying Katherine, only for her father’s money. When Katherine gets married, Pertucio comes in very unprofessional and drags her out of her own wedding and brainwashes her into obeying him. Our class had to write a simple Shakespearean sonnet about one of the characters in the play and I chose Katherine because I feel like she had a lot to go through and had a major turn around.

She was living the rich life being who she was
did not care that people spoke about her
A feral female who showed her jaws
Or that single, young, women who starts blur

She exclaimed that it wouldn’t be so hard
All of her mis mindfulness took a toll
want to marry her is on a blank card
chose to marry her sister on scroll

together a bad man she shouldn’t marry
Abused and destroyed her mental state
Being her, outspoken was to bury
In there, She barely slept and barely ate

She’s gone, mind only a remote control
A robot to her husband was his goal

In my Forbidden books class, we learned about censorship on books and how they were censored. Censorship on books is "a form of censorship that occurs when private individuals, government officials, or organizations remove books from libraries, school reading lists, or bookstore shelves because they object to their content, ideas, or themes." from Middle Tennessee State. People want to censor books because they think it will affect the younger generation to rebel against the traditional ways.   We also learned about Socrates and ancient Greece, their style of learning and Socrates' questioning life. Socrates was a philosopher who rebelled the idea of greek gods. He is important to western civilization because he shows us students to question things your parents and teachers believe about reality and society. That is where he made the Socratic dialogue. Garden Shear-ye

 In my first Junior STEAM core class, Design and Engineering, we virtually learned about tools and how they came to be. We had the privilege to meet via video meetings with Dyson engineers and designers to learn about the design process and the reinvention of basic items. We also met with Greater Good Studio and talked about empathy and how each product can be available to everyone, despite the disability or the circumstance. For our Action Project, we had to redesign a garden tool for the elderly or the disabled.  We also interviewed my mother, who was a gardener and she said that an acquaintance who had arthritis was unable to use garden shears because of their disease.
