Garden Shear-ye

In my first Junior STEAM core class, Design and Engineering, we virtually learned about tools and how they came to be. We had the privilege to meet via video meetings with Dyson engineers and designers to learn about the design process and the reinvention of basic items. We also met with Greater Good Studio and talked about empathy and how each product can be available to everyone, despite the disability or the circumstance. For our Action Project, we had to redesign a garden tool for the elderly or the disabled.  We also interviewed my mother, who was a gardener and she said that an acquaintance who had arthritis was unable to use garden shears because of their disease. So my partner and I chose to create a completely new design for garden shears for people with arthritis. To view my partner’s Action Project click here .
