Changin' Washington Park

For our Civic Term class Music that Matters, We were given a task from a nonprofit organization called My Block, My Hood, My City to find an idea that will improve my neighborhood. Since I live near George Washington Park on 51st and King Drive, I feel like having a 30-foot slave owner hovering over the descendants of slaves needs improvement. We were also added music to boost the feeling of support for our block. We talked with many artists about protest and learned that art can create an opinion.  I think that having this in action will not only affect my neighborhood but spark others to do the same. I think the hardest part was the video </div

Bike for 2, please!

The Transgender War

In our second Art of Rhetoric AP, we talked about the status quo and Op-Ed. During this unit, we also met with a young alderman of the 40th ward, Ugo Okere. He discussed that being a public speaker is important when expressing your opinion. And during our FE to the Marquette Park Memorial on the west of 67th, we conversed about how it doesn't take just one important person to change an opinion, it takes a community. In this AP we were to choose an opinion that society thinks is true and put OUR opinion in there and provide facts.  How society thinks that being a transgender man/woman and being a drag queen/king is the same, is false and inaccurate. Being transgender is identifying as a different or opposite gender than the one you were born. Being a  drag queen means that you change your gender to entertain or perform.  The main star of the famous drag queen tv show RuPaul’s Drag Race, RuPaul comments a ton of derogatory words towards trans people. “I love the word ‘tranny,’ he ins

Garden Shear-ye

In my first Junior STEAM core class, Design and Engineering, we virtually learned about tools and how they came to be. We had the privilege to meet via video meetings with Dyson engineers and designers to learn about the design process and the reinvention of basic items. We also met with Greater Good Studio and talked about empathy and how each product can be available to everyone, despite the disability or the circumstance. For our Action Project, we had to redesign a garden tool for the elderly or the disabled.  We also interviewed my mother, who was a gardener and she said that an acquaintance who had arthritis was unable to use garden shears because of their disease. So my partner and I chose to create a completely new design for garden shears for people with arthritis. To view my partner’s Action Project click here . Letter to Walter

In my last unit of my sophomore year, we learned about racism and segregation. During this pandemic, we have dealt with racism by police brutality and violence from the authority who abuse their power. we also had a lawyer or attorney who experienced racism in the real estate business and had to work with others who suffer from racism. The story we were assigned to create a perspective letter is the famous play, Rasin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. This play, set in the south side of Chicago, is about a 5-person, black, family suffering from a 2 bedroom apartment until they receive a $10,000 check from the mother's late husband's life insurance. Throughout the play, the family goes through many obstacles before the mother spends her money on a new house but it is in a place where it is majority white and it’s his choice if he moves into the house and lives in a nice-sized house or sells the house to a white man who says the community around their house is “uncomfortable” for

We were supposed to show the process of the surgery from beginning to end Interview with C-section patient The interviewer in regular font Erika Howard Bailey in a special font I'm interviewing Erica Howard Bailey on Wednesday, May six at 3:55 PM. The play we read was The Taming of the Shrew and it is about a man named Christopher Sly comes in a bar and falls asleep and the owner of the place said to prank him in thinking he is a lord. After sober, Sly is treated to a play. In that play, there is a rich "prince" named Lucentio and his male servants, Tranio and Biondello, arrive in the Italian city name Padua to attend a university. During his search, he spots a beautiful young woman named Bianca and wants to marry her but he sees that she has two men who also want to marry her, Grumio and Hortensio. but for Bianca to get married, someone has to marry her “crazy” sister, Katherine. Pertucio, hortensio’s friend chooses to help hortensio get Bianca by marrying Katherine, only for her father’s money. When Katherine gets married, Pertucio comes in
